Gutierrez is a one season starter with Jimmy Rollins waiting in the wings. I wanted to target a good defensive player, and Gutierrez is just that, committing only seven errors in 487 chances in 2000. Add to that the fact that he had his best offensive year in 2000 of his 12-year MLB career and he is a no-brainer as a one year stopgap. Hell, he actually knocked 11 HRs with a .375 OBP. Hitting in the eight hole, he will more than carry his weight with those numbers. Only downside is he only played 125 games, so will still need to acquire a SS who can fill in for a couple dozen games.
Going after pitching from here on out for awhile. Need at least a couple innings eaters in the rotation. Can piece together the back end in the later rounds.
