Pick 29.11 - 670th Overall

Rey Ordonez - NYN SS

In 1996, Rey Ordonez came into the league for the New York Mets.  He played in 151 games that year and finished 5th in the Rookie-of-the-Year.  He proceeded to win the Gold Glove award in 1997, 1998 and 1999.  In 2000, he has without question his worst season of the seven he spent in New York.  Playing in only 45 games, he managed to hit just .188 for the year.  So why in the hell did we draft him onto the Stouts?  Two reasons, with number one being necessity.  Got to have a backup SS.  So why Ordonez.  No other answer but defense.  While Gutierrez is excellent in the field, if he goes down, I want somebody who is as good if not better and Ordonez fits the bill.  While I'll hate to suffer through his offensive woes, the rest of the lineup is pretty stout.  Hopefully he remains on the bench and only plays when absolutely necessary.
