Pick 14.14 - 339th Overall

Steve Kline - MON RP

Beginning with this round, each team selects two players in succession.  While that's good when it's actually your turn to pick, it stinks having to sweat out all the picks in between.

The downfall of loading up on offense early while ignoring pitching is that you are left with the 2nd tier hurlers.  That's been the case with my rotation picks as I've had to piece together a staff with some guys who are more middle of the rotation type pitchers.  When you have a rotation comprised of these types, it's essential to have a strong bullpen.  That's why I'm super excited Steve Kline was still available when my pick came up in the 14th round.

Kline is a left-handed reliever who liked to get the ball.  He led the league in appearance three times (1999-2001).  He had a nine year stretch from 1998-2006 where he never failed to appear in less than 66 games.  Kline actually received MVP votes in 2001, a season which saw him appear in 89 games with a 1.80 ERA.  Other relief pitchers may be sexier, but Kline is as consistent as they come.  As a lefty, that's hard to come by.  He'll man the 8th inning against lefties, getting the occasional nod in the 9th to close a game or two.
